Gema Swaratyagita, a composer and a music teacher, is one of the music teacher in Sjuman School of Music. She learned music since 4 years old, with piano as her first instrument. Teaching music is one of her childhood dream, when she felt that music commonly always taught with not in a fun way in that time. Then, It make her choose her path in education. She learned piano from Endang Retnowati and Lena Yudha. She got her bachelor in Music Education at UNESA Surabaya, Indonesia Literature at Universitas Airlangga Surabaya, and her master in Art and Culture Education at Pascasarjana Universitas Negeri Surabaya. As a composer, her works, was performed at YCMF (Yogyakarta Contemporary Music Festival), Festival Musik Tradisi Baru Tembi Yogyakarta, Pertemuan Musik, October Meeting (Yogyakarta), Indonesia Lab (Frankfurt) and Holland Festival (Amsterdam). She studied composition from Slamet Abdul Sjukur, Dieter Mack, Roderik de Man, and Manfred Stahnke. Aside from writing compositions and teaching, Gema is also actively involved in Pertemuan Musik, a non profit organization which focusing in music activity and community, as a director, founded by Slamet Abdul Sjukur since 1957.
